Community Food Response

Community Food Response (CFR) is a volunteer-led nonprofit that provides free meals to hungry people to take home or eat elsewhere. No proof of eligibility is required to receive food. Community Food Response has been active in Rochester for 25+ years. Every first Monday Resurrection parish volunteers help CFR by driving to pick up donated food from restaurants, grocery stores, and hospital cafeterias around Rochester and then sorting and distributing the food to our neighbors in need. You would not be expected to help every month, just as much as you are able. The driving and sorting shifts are during the early to midafternoon and the distributing shift starts at 4:30 pm. We also have a driving shift on every other Wednesday afternoon. Drivers need to be able to carry at least 8 full size coolers in their vehicles.

The food we distribute is donated by restaurants, cafeterias, businesses and grocery stores. In addition to helping people in need, CFR helps reduce the amount of food waste generated by area businesses.
Clients can visit CFR at two locations:

  • Bethel Lutheran Church at 810 3rd Avenue SE (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – 5 to 6:30pm)
  • The Exchange, 3945 10th Avenue NW (Monday and Wednesdays – 5 to 6:00pm)

CFR is closed on major holidays, including: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and Christmas.
