Faith Formation Classes Grades 1-8

In Grades 1-8, children and youth will grow in their knowledge of the Trinity- God the Father, Jesus His Son and the Holy Spirit and explore what it means to be Catholic. We use the series, Alive in Christ from Our Sunday Visitor, to introduce concepts about the Mass, the Seven Sacraments, Mary and the Rosary, seasons of the liturgical year, and vocations. Using the three- year rotating program called Virtues in Practice, we introduce new saints and virtues with a family take-home element each month. Learning to read and use the Bible and how the readings relate to the Mass is another part of class. With an emphasis on weekend Mass attendance, each week we will read, pray, and discuss the upcoming gospel. By studying the Ten Commandments and Beatitudes, they will have a better understanding of morality, how to make good choices, and the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation. The children and youth will discover and use new forms of prayer with scripture and coloring. Service projects sprinkled throughout the year will help us practice our Catholic social teachings and Works of Mercy. Families will have opportunities to share their faith together through parent/child centers for each of the grade levels and on specific Christian seasons and concepts: Angels Among Us in October and Pray, Fast, Give, and Rejoice Lent/Easter in February.
